Sometimes God Separates You to Save You

When I first began my journey of humbly walking with God, I didn't realize that one of the greatest acts of His love would come through separation.

There were relationships I had to release, conversations I had to end, and people I had to love from a distance. At the time, those decisions felt painful. I questioned them. I grieved them.

I didn't always understand why God was asking me to let go of people who had once been such a significant part of my life. But obedience rarely comes with immediate understanding.

Years later(Today actually), I found myself crossing paths with someone from that season of my life. There was no bitterness, no resentment, no awkwardness, just a quiet moment of reflection.

As I watched life continue for both of us, something unexpected happened.

I became grateful. Not because they were a bad person. Not because their character was flawed. But because I could finally see what God had been protecting me from.

There was a time when I was emotionally vulnerable. I would have accepted almost any amount of attention because I confused potential with purpose. I was willing to settle for being "almost chosen," believing that if I waited long enough, things would eventually work out.

Looking back, I realized that version of me was operating from a place of emotional hunger instead of spiritual security.

God saw what I couldn't.

He knew I needed healing more than I needed companionship.

He knew I needed identity before intimacy.

He knew I needed to learn how to be whole before asking someone else to complete me.

Watching someone move from one relationship to the next wasn't a moment of jealousy, it became a reminder of God's protection. It showed me that the relationship I once thought I wanted was never what I truly needed.

That realization filled me with gratitude.

Sometimes we mourn the doors God closes because we think we're losing something valuable. But years later, we discover we weren't losing, we were being rescued.

Not every disconnection is punishment.

Sometimes it's protection.

Sometimes it's preparation.

Sometimes it's God quietly removing you from a story that was never meant to become your future.

I've learned that obedience often feels like loss in the moment, but eventually reveals itself as love.

Today, I don't thank God because everything turned out exactly how I once imagined. I thank Him because He loved me enough to interrupt my plans with His own.

And if you're in a season where God is asking you to let go of someone you care about, trust Him.

You may not understand it today.

You may cry through it.

You may question it.

But one day, you'll look back, not with regret, but with gratitude.

Because you'll realize what felt like rejection was actually God's protection.

Sometimes the greatest blessing isn't what God gives you.

Sometimes it's what He lovingly refuses to let you keep.

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way." Psalm 37:23 (KJV)
